Enlisted 1 July 1916. Disembarked at Suez from the SS Malwa 27 December 1916 and was posted to the Rarotongan Company 7 April 1917. Admitted to the 77th Casualty Clearing Station at Jaffa 2 May 1917 with malaria and was transferred to the 47th Stationary Hospital, Gaza on the 6 May 1917 and the 24th Stationary Hospital at Kantara before being transferred to 27th General Hospital, Cairo 9 May 1917. He was admitted to the Aotea Convalescent Home between 13 May 1917 to 17 May 1917 and was then posted to the New Zealand Mounted Rifle Bde Training Regiment and Base Depot, Moascar. Rejoined the Rarotongan Company 1 July 1918. Admitted to 129th Combined Field Ambulance 5 September 1918 with measles and was evacuated to the 48th Stationary Hospital 15 September 1918, the 44th Stationary Hospital on 23 September and the Military Infection Hospital 26 September 1918 before being admitted to Aotea Convalescent Home between 8 October 1918 and 14 October 1918. Embarked for New Zealand on the SS Malta 14th of December 1918 and discharged 20 March 1919.

In May 2022, the military headstone was not on the grave and was stored with the family in Titikaveka, Rarotonga. In January 2023, the headstone was restored by Paula Paniani and installed on the refurbished grave
